Wills, Trusts, Probate & Inheritance Tax

As a society we are generally getting older, but living longer.  With our help and assistance you can prepare your Will and make proper estate planning to ensure that the wealth you have collected through hard work and effort, is distributed amongst those you want to receive it, rather than the Tax-man.

Situated within 50 yards of the new Liverpool One in the heart of this City’s redevelopment, we are very easy to find and have excellent public transport links.  Please see our location map within the “Contact and Find us” section of this site.

Alternatively we can arrange to visit you in your home, hospital or even arrange an out of hours appointment if necessary.

Regrettably, none of us can predict when illness or incapacity may strike.  We can assist to make your affairs more manageable whatever happens.  We can make suggestions about methods of funding for residential or nursing accommodation and we can advise about the implementation of Lasting Powers of Attorney to allow a family member, relative, friend or professional advisor to assist you with your financial and personal affairs.

The provisions of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 were implemented in October 2007 and we can advise on the completion and implication of an appropriate scheme after discussion with you.  We can also assist with Deputyship Applications and registrations of existing Enduring Powers of Attorney in respect of someone who has already lost capacity and we are here to provide general assistance to you at what is often a very difficult time.

Inheritance Tax (IHT) is a subject that we are often asked about, and it is an area where we can assist you and offer some ideas and methods that can help reduce the Tax bill to your estate.

Currently, the threshold for IHT is £325,000 meaning that if the total value of your estate exceeds the threshold the balance above that figure is liable to tax at 40% subject to certain statutory exemptions.  The loss of 40 pence in every pound over the threshold is a lot of tax to pay and may cause hardship to your family and relatives if not properly planned for.
